Florida uses MyFloridaMarketPlace for state eProcurement, but that does not make it a universal portal for every county, city, school board, airport, utility, or authority. A service contractor needs a state process and a separate local-buyer inventory.

Register for the state work you can actually perform

Florida's Department of Management Services says vendors doing business with the state create an account in the MyFloridaMarketPlace Vendor Information Portal. Prepare the legal company name, tax information, business locations, offered commodities and services, and any certification information you can support.

Vendor registration is not the same as certification and does not guarantee an award. The state's supplier-development guidance says businesses may register without being certified; certification requires a separate eligibility and documentation review.

Choose commodity codes that drive useful notices

MFMP uses commodity codes to classify purchases and send targeted solicitation notifications. Select codes that match the actual services and regularly review them as your offer changes. An overly broad profile produces noise; an incomplete one can hide relevant invitations.

For janitorial work, separate recurring custodial service, floor care, day porter coverage, specialty cleaning, supplies, and related facility services when the available code structure supports that distinction.

Research opportunities and prior contracts

Use MFMP's official vendor resources to learn how to locate and respond to formal solicitations. Read each event in the Business Network and the linked documents; the notice, attachments, amendments, and response instructions control the competition.

Florida's supplier-development guidance points vendors to the Florida Accountability Contract Tracking System to research existing awards, incumbent vendors, purchasing agencies, and expiration dates. Award history helps decide which accounts merit time before the next bid opens.

Account for fees and post-award administration

Review the current MFMP transaction-fee and reporting rules for the specific contract instead of pricing from an old assumption. Florida DMS publishes the applicable period, exemptions, reporting expectations, and payment process on its official site.

Confirm invoicing, performance reporting, insurance, background checks, facility access, and contract-management contacts before mobilization. A compliant bid can still become an unprofitable contract if administrative costs are missing from the estimate.

Treat local Florida buyers as separate markets

Counties, municipalities, school districts, colleges, housing authorities, airports, transit agencies, utilities, and special districts may use their own registration and solicitation portals. Start at the buyer's official procurement page and follow the system named there.

SAM.gov is relevant to direct federal awards. Federal clauses can appear in locally issued work funded with federal money, but that does not make SAM.gov the default portal for every Florida public contract.

  • Maintain the MFMP profile
  • Tune commodity codes
  • Research award history
  • Price current fee rules
  • Verify every local portal separately

The takeaway

Use MFMP for Florida state procurement, but build a buyer-by-buyer local process map and price the exact solicitation, fee, and performance requirements before bidding.
